Part Time Field Assistants:
Do you live locally and prefer to volunteer less than full time (one to three days per week)? We can use you! Fill out the Application Portal below and verify that you are applying on a part-time basis. We will contact you as we go through applications.
Overview:
The CKDP is now taking applications for part time field assistants for the 2025 field season this upcoming summer, between May to the end of August (exact dates to be determined). Applicants available for the full period will be given priority. Please note that we receive far more applications than the number of positions that we can offer, therefore the selection process is highly competitive. We are anticipating 1-2 part time field assistants for the 2025 season.
Assistants will be expected to work on a boat on good weather days (up to 3 days per week), for up to 12 hours at a time. Due to the weather-dependent nature of fieldwork, we cannot specify which days of the week will be worked in advance. However, we are willing to coordinate with the incumbent’s other work schedules to the best of our ability. Typical weather conditions in summer include 95-degree heat, high humidity, and no breezes.
When the weather does not permit fieldwork, work will consist of photo-identification, data entry, and equipment maintenance. Assistants can expect to split their time in the field and in the lab (data processing). Goals of the upcoming field season include collecting health data, continuing our photo ID studies, and potentially other research objectives as needed. Assistants may also be asked to assist in local marine mammal stranding response via partner organizations.
A stipend will be provided to support costs of food and fuel. Assistants will be responsible for providing their own transportation to the lab or field site and should be local to the Levy County/Alachua County area. Our goal is to coordinate with the field assistants’ schedules and offer flexibility where possible, allowing them to balance other jobs or commitments, while still ensuring that we meet our own project timeline and commitments.
Expectations for all positions:
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Complete an application form via the project website: https://www.cedarkeydolphinproject.org/field-assistant-application.html
2. Submit all required application materials (CV, cover letter, and contact for 3 references) as a single PDF file via email with the subject line “2025 Field Assistant Application” to ckdolphinproject at gmail.com.
Completed applications are due by Friday, March 14. Only complete applications received by the deadline will be considered. A short-list of applicants will be asked to conduct a short Zoom interview in March. For more information or to ask any questions, please email ckdolphinproject at gmail.com.
